is a living entity within the simulation, expressed through the
. Avatars represent the simulation's living
participants, and are divided into two groups:
- Player Characters (PCs) - PCs are avatars that are
typically played by living, human beings, and represent the primary
type of expression for simulation participants. PCs tend to start at
the ground level with regards to experience, slowly gaining power
as they engage the simulation's underlying story.
- Non-player Characters (NPCs) - NPCs are avatars which
are played most often by the
Event Driver, and sometimes by
simulation administrators. They are used to provide supporting roles for stories as
they unfold. Generally speaking, any avatar not consistently played by
a human being is an NPC.
Avatars are typically identified by their simulation-specific name, derived from the inherited
. This name is non-unique,
and can change over the unfolding of the simulation. This is also
separate from the avatar's login userid
, which is unique, and persistent
throughout the lifetime of the simulation.
Avatars are imbued with a mana pool, the avatar's spark of life,
the esoteric portion of an avatar, represented by the avatar's
constitution. At birth, each
avatar is linked to the simulation's power system through a
healing conduit, a channel for mana which regenerates
the avatar as part of the process of life.
